WIESBADEN – Roughly 5.0 million people were employed in the public service in Germany in mid-2020. To coincide with the Public Service Day on 23 June 2021 the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 83,200, or 1.7%, compared with a year earlier. All in all, approximately 11% of the persons in employment in Germany worked in the public service. Large increases had been recorded in the police and child day care centres both in 2020 and the preceding year.
