- Slightly more than 300,000 Germans living in Germany’s neighbouring country at the beginning of 2020
WIESBADEN - Germans emigrating to another European country most often choose Switzerland as their destination. To mark Europe Day on 9 May 2021, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that roughly 307,000 German citizens were residing in this neighbouring country at the beginning of 2020. According to data of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), this number has been increasing for years. Compared with 2019, the increase was 1,200 persons or 0.4%.
