Press Revenue from aviation tax down 70.6% in 2020 due to the corona crisis

WIESBADEN – In 2020 a total of 349.8 million euros of aviation tax - also called “flight ticket tax” - was payable in Germany, according to the tax returns of airlines. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that revenue from this tax declined by 838.3 million euros, or 70.6%, compared with a year earlier (2019: 1.2 billion euros). In 2020 aviation tax was payable for 24.7 million air passengers, which was a decline of almost three quarters (-74.4%) on 2019. Aviation tax is charged on all passenger flights departing from German airports.
