Press Mobility declined less at Easter 2021 compared to Easter 2020

Mobility declined also less on the Easter weekend than on weekends in March; however people did not frequently travel over longer distances than 100 kilometres

Press release No. 184 of 13 April 2021

WIESBADEN – People in Germany travelled more during Easter in the second year of the coronavirus pandemic than at Easter 2020. This is shown by a special evaluation of experimental data carried out by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) to represent mobility changes during the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021 mobility on Good Friday was by one fifth (-20%) and on Easter Monday by one third (-33%) lower compared with 2019. On the Easter weekend as such (Saturday and Sunday), mobility declined by 14% on 2019. For comparison: In 2020 the decline in mobility during the Easter weekend amounted to 28%, it was 43% on Easter Monday and 34% on Good Friday. Thus mobility between Good Friday and Easter Monday was on all days higher in 2021 than during the 2020 Easter holidays, compared with the respective days in the pre-crisis year 2019.
