Press 2,155 personal injury accidents with e-scooters in 2020

• Main cause of accidents was the influence of alcohol (18.3%)

• One third (33.7%) of all e-scooter users involved in an accident were younger than 25 years

• E-scooters were involved in 0.8% of all personal injury accidents

WIESBADEN - The streets in German cities can no longer be imagined without e-scooters. For the first time - provisional - accident figures are now available for a year. In 2020, the police registered a total of 2,155 accidents with e-scooters in Germany in which people were injured or killed. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that five e-scooter users died, while 386 were severely and 1,907 slightly injured. More than 80% of the casualties were driving themselves an e-scooter.
