- Turnover in accommodation and food services 47.1% lower in real terms (price adjusted) in March 2020 to January 2021 than in the same period a year earlier
- Hotels, inns and guest-houses recorded 57.0% decline in real terms during that period

- Before the coronavirus crisis: turnover in accommodation and food services at roughly 100 billion euros; gross hourly earnings below low-wage threshold for two thirds of the jobs
WIESBADEN – Now that the accommodation and food services sector has been closed for several months to contain the number of infections, a gradual reopening strategy is being discussed. Hotels, restaurants and cafés have suffered from the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic since March 2020. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), turnover in the accommodation and food services sector as a whole was 47.1% lower in real terms (price-adjusted) in March 2020 to January 2021 than in the same period a year earlier.
