WIESBADEN – Roughly 1.9 million women and men in Germany received parental allowance in 2020. That was a decrease of roughly 4,000, or 0.2%, compared with 2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of male recipients of parental allowance increased by 6,500 (+1.4%) year on year, while the number of female recipients declined by 10,500 (-0.7%). As a result, the proportion of fathers increased to 24.8% (2019: 24.4%). This means that the proportion of fathers continued to increase in 2020. In 2015, it stood at 20.9%.
