Press Hairdressing trade in the corona crisis: turnover dropped 11.8% in the first three quarters of 2020

WIESBADEN – According to the decisions of the Federation and the Länder of 10 February 2021 on how to proceed in the coronavirus pandemic, hairdressing shops in Germany may reopen on 1 March after eight weeks without business. The first lockdown in spring 2020 had already affected the hairdressing trade particularly strongly compared with other crafts with compulsory approval. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the turnover of hairdressing shops dropped by 11.8% in the first three quarters of 2020 compared with the same period of 2019. In the group of trades comprising crafts for private needs, which includes stonemasons’ and sculptors’ businesses apart from hairdressing shops, turnover declined by only 5.4%.
