• A total of 231,000 people, of whom 54% were men, died from cancer in Germany in 2019
• In the age group of 45 to 65 year olds, cancer is the most frequent cause of death
• Number of people dying from cancer up 10% since 1999

WIESBADEN – In 2019, roughly 231,000 people died from cancer in Germany: 125,000 men and 106,000 women. To coincide with the World Cancer Day, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a quarter of all deaths was caused by cancer. This proportion remained almost unchanged over a period of 20 years, even though the number of people dying from cancer increased by about 10% compared with 1999.
