• Gross earnings in postal and courier activities increased only a below-average 15.6% between 2010 and 2019
• Prices of postal and courier services recorded a rather strong increase of 11.2% between 2015 and the 2nd quarter of 2020
• Turnover in online retail trade increased by 21.2% in real terms from January to September 2020 year on year
WIESBADEN – The continuing boom in online sales is also prompting a massive upturn in postal and courier activities - not only in the run-up to Christmas. This is a challenge for people employed in this sector. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that two in three people (63%) employed in the postal and courier services sector worked also on weekends and holidays in 2019. That share was far higher than the relevant proportion in the economy as a whole (36%).
