WIESBADEN – Nearly 9 in 10 employees covered by collective agreements (87.4%) in Germany will receive a Christmas bonus in 2020. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this proportion is slightly larger than in 2019 (86.9%). The collectively agreed Christmas bonus seems to be paid despite the corona crisis this year. The proportion of employees covered by collective agreements and entitled to a Christmas bonus has increased from 86.4% last year to 90.0% this year in eastern Germany, while it has been unchanged in western Germany (87.0% in both years). On average, these employees will receive a gross extra payment of 2,661 euros. This is an increase of 1.1% compared with 2019. On average, the Christmas bonus of employees covered by collective agreements is 7.2% higher in western Germany (2,684 euros) than in eastern Germany (2,503 euros).
