Press Ad-hoc evaluation shows mobility in coronavirus hotspots

Mobility down again after restrictions entered into force on 2 November 2020 all over Germany

Press release No. 441 of 6 November 2020

WIESBADEN – As the number of COVID-19 cases is rising rapidly, a large part of all administrative districts and towns not attached to an administrative district in Germany have crossed the critical threshold of more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within the previous seven days. An ad-hoc evaluation of experimental data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows that mobility decreased all over Germany by 3.7% on Monday, 2 November 2020 and by 6.4% on Tuesday, 3 November 2020 compared with the relevant weekdays of the previous week after restrictions were introduced for the whole o]f Germany. Coronavirus hotspots on average were more affected by that decrease than non-hotspots. However, only a few regions in the north-eastern part of Germany are left now that are considered as non-hotspots. On Tuesday, 354 of the 401 administrative districts and towns not attached to an administrative district had a critical incidence of more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within the previous seven days.
