Press 12% increase in car density in Germany in the past ten years

WIESBADEN - Cars are the most popular means of transport in the German transport infrastructure. Despite the public discussion on climate protection and mobility transition, the car density in Germany increased by 12%, that is, from an average of 509 to 569 cars per 1,000 inhabitants between 2009 and 2019. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports this based on figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority and its own calculations. In the same period, the total number of cars was up 14% from 41.3 million to just under 47.1 million.
