Press release No. N 046 of 6 August 2020

WIESBADEN – Enjoying beer, but without alcohol: in the last ten years, the production of non-alcoholic beer has increased in Germany. To coincide with the International Beer Day on 7 August, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that just over 4.2 million hectolitres of non-alcoholic beer were produced in 2019. This means that the quantity produced for sale has almost doubled since 2009 (+97%). The produced quantity has increased recently, too. In the first quarter of 2020, production amounted to just over 947,000 hectolitres, which was an 8% increase compared with the same period a year earlier (slightly more than 875,000 hectolitres).
