WIESBADEN – The low traffic volume owing to the coronavirus pandemic also has an impact on road traffic accidents. In the first six months of 2020, 1,281 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was a decline of 195 people, or 13.2%, on the first half of 2019. The number of people injured dropped by 18.7% to just under 148,100. The number of people killed or injured in traffic accidents in the first six months of 2020 was the lowest ever recorded in a first half of a year since German reunification in 1990.
