WIESBADEN – Never before have so many hours of sunshine been recorded in Germany in March, April and May – according to the German Meteorological Service, the spring of 2020 was the sunniest since records began in 1951. There was sunshine in abundance especially in April with approximately 294 hours of sunshine, thanks to which photovoltaics as a proportion of the electricity feed-in reached record highs in Germany as a whole. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the relevant percentage was 17.2% in April 2020, which, together with wind power (24.2%), was the largest proportion of the electricity fed in from renewable energy sources. In all, renewable energy sources accounted for 55.6% of the total electricity feed-in.
