Number of traffic accidents at a record high

WIESBADEN – In 2019, 3,046 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany. This was the lowest level for more than 60 years. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of road traffic fatalities decreased by 229 people, or 7%, in 2019 compared with the previous year. The police counted a total of 2.7 million traffic accidents on German roads – more than at any time since 1991 . People were injured or killed in approximately 11% of the accidents. The number of people injured declined by 3.0% to 384,000 in 2019 compared with a year earlier.
