Importance of own employment increases over time

WIESBADEN – In 2019, employment was the main source of livelihood for 74% of adults in Germany aged between 18 and 64 years. Based on results of the microcensus, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that these were 37.8 million people. The proportions differed between men and women: 80% of men and 68% of women aged between 18 and 64 lived mainly on their own income from employment.
