Press release No. 243 of 30 June 2020
WIESBADEN – German fruit growers expect cherry yields to be somewhat lower this summer than in 2019. Based on a first estimate as at 10 June 2020, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that fruit growers expect a total harvested quantity of 53,500 tonnes of sweet and sour cherries. This would be a decrease of 11% compared with both 2019 and 2018. This spring, late frosts and dry periods caused yield losses in many places. Despite the decline, cherry yields are expected to be 12% above the ten-year average of 47,800 tonnes per year.
