WIESBADEN – According to provisional results, the amount of waste generated in Germany in 2018 increased by 1.2% to 417.2 million tonnes compared with the previous year. Due to the good economic situation in the construction sector, the highest increase was recorded for construction and demolition wastes (+7.9 million tonnes or +3.6%). To coincide with the World Environment Day on 5 June, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the total of waste generated reached the highest level since the beginning of the time series in 2006. The increase amounted to 11.9% in this period.
