- In 2018, 78% of mothers in couple families with school children were in employment
- More mothers worked full-time in eastern Germany than in western Germany
- In Sachsen-Anhalt, 50% of the mothers in couple families with children aged 6 to under 18 years worked full-time – more than in any other Land
- The percentages of full-time employed mothers increased in all Länder between 2008 and 2018, except for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
WIESBADEN – Due to the severe restrictions on school operation because of the corona pandemic, the majority of parents of school-age children are still struggling to balance childcare and work. To mark Mother's Day on 10 May 2020, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the proportion of mothers in employment who live with a partner and with at least one child aged 6 to under 18 years increased from just over two thirds (69%) to more than three quarters (78%) between 2008 and 2018.
