WIESBADEN – The area used for cultivating winter wheat, which is the main type of grain grown in Germany, has declined by 7% in 2020 on a year earlier. Based on first estimates, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that farmers in Germany have cultivated winter wheat for harvest in 2020 on 2.84 million hectares. This is a decrease of 213,000 hectares from 2019. The winter wheat area accounts for 46% of the total area under grain this harvest year.
