Press Aviation tax in March 2020: decline by 56.7% from a year earlier

Revenue in March lower than in February for the first time since the tax was introduced

WIESBADEN – The demand for flights has dropped significantly because of the global travel restrictions in response to the corona crisis. This is beginning to have some effect on tax revenue from aviation tax. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that in Germany cash revenue from aviation tax fell by 56.7% in March 2020 compared with March 2019. There was a decline by 27.3% in the 1st quarter of 2020 from the first quarter of 2019. In 2019, central government collected a total 1.2 billion euros in aviation taxes for roughly 96.6 million passengers transported.
