WIESBADEN – As shops had to remain closed in the corona crisis, turnover fell dramatically in individual retail trade branches in March 2020. At the same time, the strong demand for convenience goods boosted turnover for instance in supermarkets and pharmacies. According to provisional data turnover in retail trade in March 2020 was in real terms 2.8% and in nominal terms 1.5% lower than in March 2019. The number of days open for sale was 26 in March 2020 and in March 2019.

When adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations, the March 2020 turnover was in real terms 5.6% and in nominal terms 5.7% lower than in February 2020.
