WIESBADEN – Measures have been put into place to limit contact between people to a minimum in order to halt the spread of coronavirus. People living alone are particularly affected by the current contact ban - especially if they fall into high-risk groups. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a total of 16.9 million people were living alone in their homes in Germany in 2018 and 35% of them (5.8 million) were aged 65 years or above.
