WIESBADEN – In 2019, nearly 122,600 businesses were started in Germany whose legal form and number of employees suggest that they have greater economic importance. Based on an evaluation of business notifications, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of larger businesses started throughout the year was nearly unchanged on a year earlier (-0.1%). Compared with 2018, the number of small business start-ups dropped by 3.0% to just under 164,000 in 2019. However, the number of newly established part-time businesses rose by 5.3% to roughly 264,000.
