Press release No. 078 of 6 March 2020
WIESBADEN – 255,000 young people started in 2019 a qualifying programme of the transition sector between school and apprenticeship in Germany. The aim is acquiring basic vocational knowledge or obtaining a secondary general or intermediate school certificate through these programmes in order to improve the chances of securing an apprenticeship. Based on provisional results from integrated reporting on education and training, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of new participants in transition sector programmes decreased by 3.3% on 2018. The declining trend thus continued. In 2005 there had been approximately 418,000 new participants in transition sector programmes, with numbers going down continuously except for the year 2016.
