WIESBADEN – In autumn 2019, agricultural holdings in Germany sowed winter rape on 952,700 hectares of land for the 2020 harvest. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the area sown with winter rape for the next harvest is 100,800 hectares larger (+12%) than the area cultivated in 2019. After the area cultivated with winter rape in 2019 was the smallest since the turn of the millennium due to long droughts during the sowing period in autumn 2018, the area sown with winter rape has increased again in nearly all Länder. However, the relevant level of previous years has not yet been reached.
