WIESBADEN – At the end of 2018, approximately 32,800 prostitutes had valid registrations with the authorities in Germany in accordance with the Prostitute Protection Act (ProstSchG). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 1,600 prostitution businesses had been granted a permit or had a provisional permit under the Act, which entered into force on 1 July 2017. The results are partly based on administrative structures that are still being set up. Therefore, the data have limited informational value.
