Strong decline in Saudi Arabia’s importance as supplier

WIESBADEN – The quantity of crude oil imported by Germany was smaller in 2018 than in all previous years since 1992. It amounted to 84.8 million tonnes. In 1992 imports amounted to 97.3 million tonnes, in the record year 2005 of the relevant period to even 114.5 million tonnes. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the importance of Saudi Arabia as a supplier of crude oil to Germany has declined considerably. The quantity of crude oil imported from Saudi Arabia was 1.4 million tonnes in 2018. This amount accounted for 1.7% of the total crude oil imports.
