Press release No. 294 of 7 August 2019
WIESBADEN – A total of 521,900 people concluded a new apprenticeship contract in 2018. According to final results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was an increase of 6,200 contracts, or 1.2%, compared with the previous year. However, it was only men who contributed to this increased number (+2.6%), while the number of new contracts concluded by women declined again slightly (-1.0%). This means that the trend of the previous 10 years continued: the number of women opting for vocational training in the dual system declined again. Compared with 2008, the proportion of women starting training in the dual system was down by 25%.
