Press Poverty risk lowest in Bayern and highest in Bremen in 2018

Press release No. 282 of 25 July 2019

WIESBADEN – The poverty risk in Germany, measured by the at-risk-of-poverty rate – still differs considerably between regions. Based on results of the microcensus, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 11.7% of the population in Bayern, and 11.9% in Baden-Württemberg, were at risk of poverty in 2018. Thus the poverty risk was lowest in these Länder. The highest risk of poverty was recorded in Bremen (22.7%), followed by Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (20.9%). The at-risk-of-poverty rate is an indicator measuring the relative income poverty.
