WIESBADEN – Environmental protection measures are a major economic factor. To mark the World Environment Day on 5 June 2019, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the establishments of the industry and service sectors in Germany generated turnover of 73.9 billion euros in 2017 from goods, services and construction operations for environmental protection. The number of persons employed in the production of goods, in services and construction operations for environmental protection in Germany amounted to 263,883 (measured in full-time equivalents). Hence, environmental protection is also an important factor in the labour market.
