WIESBADEN – At the end of 2018, roughly 10.9 million people with only foreign citizenship were covered in the Central Register of Foreigners. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this figure included approximately 266,000 foreigners from countries outside the European Union (EU) who had a residence title for purposes of employment. At the end of 2017, the relevant number was 217,000. Thus the annual growth rate was above 20% for the third year in a row. The main countries of origin of the above group of people were India (12%), China (9%), Bosnia and Herzegovina (8%) and the United States (7%).
