Press Number of business insolvencies down 3.9% in 2018 year on year

Lowest level since the enactment of the Insolvency Statute in 1999

WIESBADEN – In 2018 German local courts reported 19,302 business insolvencies. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of 3.9% compared with 2017. The number of business insolvencies fell to the lowest level since the enactment of the Insolvency Statute in 1999. An increase in the number of business insolvencies was last recorded in the crisis year 2009 (+11.6% compared with 2008).

The local courts reported that, in relation to the business insolvency requests, the prospective debts owed to creditors amounted to roughly 21.0 billion euros in 2018.
