WIESBADEN – In 2018, roughly 433,000 pupils in Germany attained the qualification to enter a university or university of applied sciences. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 1.8% decrease in the number of persons qualified to enter higher education compared with the previous year (-8,000). The number declined almost in parallel to the population development. As at 31 December 2017, the number of people in the relevant age group (17-20 years) had decreased by 1.6% on a year earlier.
