Press 20 to 24 year olds: more than half have higher education entrance qualification

WIESBADEN – The rate of persons with a higher education entrance qualification in the age group of the 20 to 24 year olds was 53% in 2017. To coincide with the didacta Trade Fair for Education and Training taking place in Cologne from 19 to 23 February 2019, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 58% of the women and 49% of the men in this age group had a higher education entrance qualification Among the 60 to 64 year olds, only 26% had a higher education entrance qualification, the percentage being higher for men (30%) than for women (23%).
A total of roughly 32% of those aged 15 years or over had a higher education entrance qualification in Germany in 2017. Another 23% had a medium-level qualification and 30% a secondary general school certificate as their highest general school certificate.
