WIESBADEN – The turnover of enterprises with 20 or more persons employed in the energy, water and waste management industry amounted to 542.9 billion euros in 2017. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 6.5% increase on 2016. Turnover thus rose for the first time in five years (2012: +20.7%). Investments in tangible fixed assets (for instance, machinery, land with buildings, tools) in 2017 amounted to 15.2 billion euros, which was a 1.9% increase on a year earlier. In the same period, the number of persons employed was up 3.4% to just under 452,000.
