hWIESBADEN – According to provisional results, 726,400 children started school in Germany at the beginning of the current school year 2018/2019. The number of school beginners was nearly unchanged on the previous year (+0.2%). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the largest year-on-year increases in the number of school beginners were recorded in Saarland (+5.9%) and Berlin (+5.3%). The largest decline was observed in Niedersachsen (-2.7%).
