Press release No. 434 of 9 November 2018

The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a year-on-year decline of 0.6%. This amount of heat would cover the district heating demand of all households in Germany over a period of three years. The main energy sources for district heating in 2017 were natural gas (47%), hard and brown coal (28%) and waste (14%).

Basic data and long time series are available in table Net production of heat, fuel input, purchase of fuels, stock of fuels (43411-0001) in the GENESIS-Online database.
