Press 19.0% of Germany's population at risk of poverty or social exclusion

EU-wide proportion: 22.5%

WIESBADEN – In 2017, roughly 15.5 million people in Germany, or 19.0% of the country's population, were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. In 2016, the relevant number amounted to 16.0 million, which was 19.7% of the population. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, according to results of the EU-SILC (LEBEN IN EUROPA) survey, the relevant average proportion in the European Union (EU) was 22.5% in 2017.
