WIESBADEN – In 2017, the number of people who immigrated to Germany exceeded the number of those who emigrated by roughly 416,000 people. In 2016, net immigration had amounted to roughly 500,000. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that arrivals totalled 1,551,000 in 2017 and departures across Germany's borders amounted to 1,135,000. In 2016, there had been 1,865,000 arrivals and 1,365,000 departures.
