Press release No. 228 of 25 June 2018

WIESBADEN – At the end of 2017, roughly 7.8 million severely disabled people were living in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of approximately 151,000 or 2.0% compared with the end of 2015. Accordingly, 9.4% of Germany's total population were severely disabled in 2017. Slightly more than half of them (51%) were men and 49% were women. People are classed as severely disabled if a pension office has determined a degree of disablement of 50 or more and handed over a valid disability pass.
