WIESBADEN – The inflation rate in Germany as measured by the consumer price index is expected to be 2.2% in May 2018. The last time the inflation rate reached this level was in February 2017. A major reason for the increase in the inflation rate is the price development for liquid fuels (heating oil and motor fuels). Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the consumer prices are expected to increase by 0.5% on April 2018.

In May 2018, the harmonised index of consumer prices for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 2.2% year on year and 0.6% on April 2018.
The final results for May 2018 will be released on 14 June 2018.
