WIESBADEN – Please consider the following when interpreting the number of people with only foreign citizenship in the Central Register of Foreigners as published today: it is correct that the change in the number of foreigners registered in the Central Register of Foreigners from 2016 to 2017 was an increase of 585,000 people, or 5.8%, year on year. However, that figure also contains a considerable number of delayed registrations in cases where people immigrated before 2017.
This means that the increase in the number of foreigners registered in the Central Register of Foreigners of 585,000 must not be interpreted as net immigration of the year 2017. The Federal Statistical Office will publish figures on the delayed registration of migration moves of earlier years as soon as the relevant data are available.
