Press Balance of greenhouse gas emissions in land use deteriorated between 2010 and 2015

Press release No. 418 of 17 November 2017

WIESBADEN – Although more greenhouse gases were absorbed from the environment than released into it by land use, land-use change and forestry activities in 2015, too, this balance has deteriorated since 2010. To coincide with the World Climate Conference currently taking place in Bonn, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the difference between absorption and release (net emissions) was roughly -14.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents in 2015. In 2010, this value had been -16.4 million tonnes.
