Press release No. 414 of 16 November 2017

WIESBADEN – Besides developing renewable energy sources, reducing energy consumption by saving energy and increasing energy efficiency is the second major pillar in the process of transforming the energy system. To coincide with the World Climate Conference currently taking place in Bonn, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, based on provisional figures, primary energy consumption in Germany has again increased slightly since the all-time low reached in 2014. However, it has reached the fourth-lowest level since 1990. On the whole, primary energy consumption declined by 9.8% between 1990 and 2016.
