Press 11% of the 65 to 74-year-olds are in employment

WIESBADEN – In Germany, one in nine persons aged between 65 and 74 years was in employment in 2016 (11%). Based on results of the microcensus, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this applied to 942,000 of the total of 8.3 million people of this age. Ten years ago, the proportion was just half that (5%). Since 2012, the standard retirement age has gradually been raised, so that it will reach 67 years. At the end of the reference period 2016, the retirement age was 65 years and 5 months.
