Press Housing 2014: more dwellings and a lower vacancy rate than in 2010

WIESBADEN – There were 41.0 million dwellings in Germany in 2014. Based on results of the microcensus, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 570,000 or 1.4% compared with 2010. Roughly 39.2 million of all dwellings were in residential buildings (95.5%), 1.4 million in other buildings with residential space (3.4%), 451,000 in residential establishments (1.1%), and 8,000 in inhabited accommodations (0.0%).
