WIESBADEN – The share of newborn children whose parents are not married to each other in the total of live births has more than doubled in the past 25 years. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The percentage rose from 15% in 1990 to roughly 35% in 2015. However, the trend towards more births outside marriage has slowed. Since 2012, the proportion has changed only marginally.
